“A wine is like a song, it must tell a story. And this is why my wines are also named after my greatest hits.”

With these words Sting managed to enter the hearts of the fans of his music and his wines. Il Palagio, as this place full of charm and magic is called, is a territory that extends between hills of vines, olive groves, cereal fields, groves and two lakes. The place has become the chosen territory for the organic and biodynamic production of the wines of Sting and Trudie.

The first clear evidence of the existence of the property can be traced back to the second half of the 18th century. During this time the villa belonged to the Martelli’s, of the family branch of Roberto. More exactly it belonged to Bernardo of Francesco Martelli who was born in 1673 and died in 1752.

Before selling il Palagio to the Countess Carlotta Barbolani da Montauto, widow of the Duke of San Clemente, in 1819, the Martelli family commissioned several “cabrei”, drawings that reproduced the villa and the holdings. During the two centuries possession of the Velluti Zati di San Clemente they modified the villa not only in order to match the personal taste of the various members of the family, but also as a necessary step to a better functionality: the construction of a granary, an oil mill and the creation of land suitable for the production of wine.

When in 1999 Sting and Trudie entered the farm for the first time, it was in a clear state of decay, but they immediately got busy renovating the buildings and managing to restore the estate to the ancient splendor of its glorious times.
